October Meeting

Friday, October 17th, there will be a PHLA Meeting from 1:30 to 3:00 at the Arkansas Department of Health in the ADH Auditorium & VTC.

This month’s meeting will be a  Plain Language and Readability Training. Our presenter will be Wendy Thompson Assistant Director, UAMS Center for Health Literacy. She will be joined by Tanielle Jackson, a Certified Health Education Specialist. To stay up to date on future PHLA events and information, please like us on the  PHLA Facebook.

UAMS Health Literacy Open House

The UAMS Center for Health Literacy is having an Open House!

This Open House is just a drop in event from 1:30 – 3:30 PM. The open house will include  a plain language assessment activities and door prizes for those who participate in those activities.  People can also tour the office. There will be  brochures available on their services.

Health Literacy Kansas and Health Literacy Missouri are pleased to announce that Kansas City will be the location of the 2nd Kansas Health Literacy Summit and the 5th Annual Health Literacy Missouri Summit and Tribute Awards dinner on Oct. 23 and 24, 2014. Held at the historic Hilton President Kansas City, the combined events will gather hundreds of health care professionals in Kansas and Missouri as they take part in skill building workshops, sit in on panel sessions and celebrate the achievements of some of the states’ and nation’s top health literacy scholars and practitioners. Topics include:

  • Controlling healthcare costs while improving quality
  • Cultural agility: Techniques for navigating healthcare with vulnerable populations
  • How health literacy impacts health reform and the marketplace
  • Resilience, empathy and mindfulness as a path to health literacy
